about
Amorphous
Rivera's work explores the notion of unconscious memory, mythical collective fears and primitive child-like emotion. Setting up a distant point of view from eyes of the other, he contextualises an enquiry into the self in both object casting and filmmaking. In his film, Mar do Rostro, the dawning of self-awareness confronts the pilgrim with his own narcissism by contrasting the symbolism of the mythical characters with contemporary popular culture. Rivera then recollects the transformation of myth and its shifted value in our unconsciousness, making them into the amorphous figures. These distorted characters, generated from the universal-fairy-tale, constantly evolve while recalling the unconscious memory in our childhood.
