This video piece is based on an etching with the same title by the sub-realist artist Marx Ernst. It proposes a fiction, which represents the personal relationship that would take place between the artist (in this case transforming into an sphinx) and the possibility or impossibility to create an artwork within this Oedipal context. |

Snippets of the greatest hits of movie speeches (as chosen by American Rhetoric website) are collaged together and dubbed with a synthetic voice to create a piece of oratory that sends mixed messages about the ‘human condition’ and the leaders- real and fictional- who try to shape it. | |
| * Erica Scourti was born in Athens, Greece in 1980 and now lives and works in London. Since graduating from BA Fine Art from Middlesex University, her work has been screened internationally and extensively in the UK, most recently at the Oberhausen Short Film Festival Lounge, in ‘Making Love to My Ego’ at Bureau gallery, Manchester, the Zebra Poetry Film Award in Berlin and online video gallery tank.tv.
